E3 2018: Some games I am looking forward to
E3 2018 has come and gone and quite a few games got my interest. These are some of the games, I would like to play. These are in no particular order and not a top whatever E3 games. I may put another list together later as well, there are a lot of games and very little time for me to mention them all. These are also the major games that I saw in the major press conferences, so if I had missed any a game to you liked, let me know in the comments or message me. There is a trailer for each game in each section.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit
From Square Enix and DONTNOD and set in the Life is Strange Universe. This game and your choices will serve and set up for the upcoming game Life is Strange 2. You are Chris, a 10-year-old boy, who dreams of adventure as a means of coping with the apparent “death” of his mom and his dad’s inability to cope with that loss. I like the concept and I’m interested in the story and the character development. I’d like it if a lot of the gameplay is Chris by himself and dealing with his mom’s death through fantasy. Life is Strange was a game I thought was alright at first, but it grew on me and got better the more I played it. The music in the trailer captures the mood of Life is Strange and Chris strikes the same cover as Max from Life is Strange.
I’m curious on how or what his power will be and how it will tie into the Life is Strange Universe. From the trailer, I’m guessing jumping between worlds of fantasy and reality. Better yet, the game is free and released on June 26th. At least I’m hoping it’s not something like episode one is free and the rest you have to pay for.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
I’ve never play Ori and the Blind Forest. It was just one of those games I looked at all of the time and said, “I’ll get to it later” and “I’ll get to it later, I promise” and “Someday, I’ll play it”. After the preview of this game was shown, I finally brought Ori and the Blind Forest. Everything in this game looks beautiful, the cartoon like design of the characters, the music, the lore of the series. From what I’ve seen and read, the design of the game looks like Rayman Origins and a Metroidvania style gameplay. I can’t wait to get into Ori and the Blind Forest and see what I’ve been missing.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate
This was odd for me, only because out of their 40 minute Nintendo direct video this took up 25 minutes! I wanted more from them at their E3 video in terms of new games. But at the same time, it’s SUPER SMASH BROS!!! and worth all 25 minutes. I’m glad to see everyone from all past Smash Bros. game is back. Like Young Link, Solid Snake, The Ice Climbers, even Pichu. If they where in a prior game, then they are back. Ridley was introduced to the smash roster, but he was a character that I didn’t care if he was in the game. It might get heat for this, but I’m looking more forward to Pichu coming back than I was Ridley in Smash Universe. I’m guessing he is a fan service character, since he was requested for the longest time. It’s kind of weird that they called the clone characters (fighters that have the same fighting moves like Lucina and Marth, Ganondorf and Captain Falcon, and Pit and Dark Pit) “echo characters”. I’m guessing Nintendo didn’t like the term “clone”. The game is kind of hard to judge if the game is a port or a sequel, as most Smash Bros game to me just seem more like an upgrade instead of a true sequel. There are new direct and to the point final smashes which will keep the pace moving. Last items I have are: I don’t have to buy 2 games like the Wii U and 3DS to have a home and portable experience with the game, and there’s still more to learn and possibly new characters to be revealed. This game will keep me busy all winter.
OH BOY! I loved Doom 2016 game. I’m heavily looking forward to this game. The trailer did not reveal a lot, so I’m assuming it looks like a retelling of Doom 2 Hell on Earth. With Doom Eternal, I don’t need to know a lot. I like Doom’s story just get to one end of the level to another, kill everything in your way, repeat for several levels. That is what Doom was best at in story terms. It sounds like and I’m hoping for Mick Gordon to be writing the soundtrack again. It is one of the best soundtracks ever written for a video game and introduced me to the concept of Djent Metal.
I seem to be focusing on the negative comments and hate that the game is receiving, but I am looking forward to this one. I love the Fallout series and maybe a change is necessary to avoid getting stale. You are one of the first to emerge from your Vault 76 after Reclamation Day and are tasked to start rebuilding the wasteland in the hills and mountains of West Virginia. There are no NPC’s in the game. Instead anyone who plays the game, myself included, are the characters in the game. I’m not one for multiplayer games, but I’ll get it a shot. That John Denver Country Roads cover is going to be stuck in my head until the release of the game.
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Of all the Resident Evil games, RE 2 has to have my favorite lore in the series. I just loved that split story and show a what happened to this character while you were playing as the other character. The interrogation room jump scare was one of my favorites in the game as well. So how did this get better, let’s give it the Resident Evil 4 over the shoulder camera, redesign the gameplay, and show a tease like at E3 like it’s a new Resident Evil game and using the first person engine like Resident Evil 7 but you are a rat. This game is also dark. It’s a feel of horror as there is no power to the police station. This game is more horror based than Resident Evil two originally was. I’m kind of dread that interrogation room jump scare in this one.
Elder Scrolls 6
Elder Scrolls 6. Not Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, not Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Game of the Year edition, not Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Remastered, not Elder Scrolls Skyrim VR, Not Elder Scrolls Skyrim: Very Special edition. Although, that last one was pretty funny:
It’s just something new after seven years.
