I got a suggestion/question for a topic about my thoughts and expectations for Solo: A Star Wars story. This won’t be a look in Star Wars movies as a whole, just a brief look at Solo: A Star Wars Story and a quick look at Han Solo and other Star Wars movies. I don’t think that there is anything that constitutes as spoilers, but in case, considering this your warning. As of right now, I’m looking forward to the movie, but not anywhere near the hype I had to the level of Star Wars The Force Awakens or The Last Jedi. To gauge my expectations, if I miss watching it in theaters, I wouldn’t be that upset, but I’d like to see it on the big screen if I can.
The movie will focus on Han Solo, a pilot of the Millennium Falcon from the planet Corellia. Introduced in the 1977 Star Wars film, he is a reckless smuggler with a sarcastic wit. Along with his Wookiee co pilot Chewbacca, they get involved in the Rebel Alliance’s battle against the Galactic Empire. The character is described by George Lucas as “a loner who realizes the importance of being a part of a group and helping the common good. In the Star Wars main movie series, he is played by Harrison Ford. In this sort of prequel movie, he will be played by Alden Ehrenreich.
To do a movie about Han Solo’s beginnings, just seems out-of-place to tell. I feel that Han Solo’s film story arc was completed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I got a beginning, middle and end for this character and feel I know all I need to know about him. I don’t know what else this movie could add to Han Solo. Tell me his back story, but I feel I know everything that I need to know about him. I know that he won’t be in dire consequences like death in this movie. Where his story and character will be going in this Star Wars movie timeline. I know how he got the Millennium Falcon already, how he made the Kessel run in 12 parsecs, and that you never tell him the odds. From Star Wars A New Hope to The Force Awakens Harrison Ford had done a great job acting out the character and the writers told me all that I need to know about him.
You can say this movie is a one-off. It is called a Star Wars story and it’s will be like Rogue One, another Star Wars story that was released in 2016 about how the plans of the Death Star were acquired by the rebels. This movie can be looked as unnecessary as well, since we had an idea of what was going to happen in that movie as well. But it did provide something to the audience and me that helped. We got an exciting story about how the Death Star plans were obtained. It also gave us the look of a darker side of the rebel alliance and there attempts to try to defeat the empire. Also it introduced K-2SO, who is my favorite droid in the series. To me, it took something that I thought I knew and gave me an entertaining and good story I didn’t know.

So what do I have to look forward to in this movie. It is possible that this movie could tell a story like they did in Rouge one. A twist and maybe have something that we didn’t know about Han. But, I feel that might be unlikely. The cast of the movie is impressive. I’ll give Alden Ehrenreich a chance as Han Solo. I also think that the casting of Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, a smuggler in the galaxy’s underworld and Han’s business ally of sorts, is a good choice. The new characters in the movie could be interesting with Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett, a criminal and Han’s Mentor. Emilia Clarke as Qi’Ra comrade and knew Han as a child. They might have a chance to either expand Han, or tells us something that we already knew. It does present the chances that these characters might appear in other media, or even get a spin off story of there own. It even stars Thandie Newton, Jon Favreau, and Paul Bettany. The film does a have a solid cast. My only concern is Lando’s Droid L3-37 or Leet, a name that is a play on Leet speak. l337 is used as an adjective to describe formidable prowess or accomplishment in online gaming or computer hacking. At least right now, the name feels forced.
